What Kolo is

Kolo is a messenger for chatting, calling, and communities. The Kolo website also shows the profiles, groups, and channels their owners have deliberately made public, and it has no access to private conversations.

Account and profile

When you register, we store your username and use it to sign you into the app. Your display name, avatar, and “about” description are provided by you and are visible to other Kolo users according to your privacy settings.

Messages

Messages in direct and group chats are protected by end-to-end encryption. We have no technical ability to read the content of encrypted messages.

Calls

Audio and video calls are transmitted directly between devices. The call signal itself (the incoming-call notification) is not end-to-end encrypted — the server sees only the fact of the call, its type (audio or video), the sender, the room, and the time, but has no access to the audio or video.

Push notifications

To show notifications about messages and calls while the app is closed, we send push requests through the Apple Push Notification service. These requests contain only the metadata needed to display a notification or call, and never the content of an encrypted message.

When you open GIF search, the words you type, your IP address, and your app locale are sent directly to KLIPY so it can return relevant results. Kolo does not attach your account identifier or keep a history of those searches. A GIF you choose to send is then stored on Kolo’s server like other media you share.

Media files

Avatars, photos, and other files you share are stored on Kolo’s server so they can be delivered to conversation participants or public visitors of a profile or channel.

Reports

When you report a message, person, group, or channel, Kolo’s server receives your account, the reason you picked, any details you add, and the identifiers of what you reported. The app doesn’t send the content of encrypted messages with a report. Only the Kolo team sees reports, and we use them to enforce our Terms of Use.

Waitlist

If you join the waitlist on our website, we store your email address, the platforms you picked, and your language. We use them only to email you when Kolo comes to those platforms. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes your address from the list right away.

Data we don’t share

We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising. Data may be disclosed only when required by law.

Your control

You can update your profile, leave a group or channel, or delete your account in the Kolo app at any time. To delete your account and associated data, contact us.
